Clinical Pilates & Strength Training

pre assessment

At Not Just Bendy, we understand the unique challenges individuals with hypermobility face and the importance of tailored approaches to address their needs. Our Clinical Pilates & Strength Training program is designed specifically for those with hypermobility, focusing on building strength, stability, and flexibility while minimising the risk of injury.

Understanding Hypermobility

Hypermobility is a condition characterised by excessive joint mobility, which can lead to instability, joint pain, and an increased risk of injury. Traditional exercise programs may not be suitable for individuals with hypermobility as they can sometimes exacerbate these issues. That’s where our tailored, supervised Clinical Pilates & Strength Training program comes in.

Benefits of Clinical Pilates & Strength Training

  • Improved Joint Stability: Strengthening the muscles around hypermobile joints can help improve stability and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Enhanced Body Awareness: Clinical Pilates focuses on core strength, alignment, and body awareness, which are essential for individuals with hypermobility to maintain control and stability during movement.
  • Increased Muscle Strength: Targeted strength training exercises help build muscle strength and endurance, providing better support to hypermobile joints.
  • Better Posture: Poor posture is a common issue for individuals with hypermobility. Our program includes exercises to correct posture and promote optimal alignment.
  • Pain Management: By addressing muscle imbalances and enhancing joint stability, Clinical Pilates & Strength Training can help alleviate joint pain and improve overall function.

Balanced And Strong Exercise Classes – Our Approach

Our “Balanced and Strong” exercise classes offer a comprehensive and personalised approach to fitness for individuals with hypermobility. Our experienced Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists work closely with clients to develop individualised exercise plans that address their unique needs and goals. We take into account factors such as joint laxity, muscle imbalances, and proprioceptive deficits to create a safe and effective training program.

In our brand new, state-of-the-art gym, clients have access to hypermobility-friendly cardio equipment, Pilates reformers, Trap Tables, Wunder Chair, cable machines, TRX systems, weights, and a variety of small appliances like balls, bands, blocks, and discs. This diverse range of equipment allows us to create customised routines that enhance strength and stability while minimising injury risk.

Our classes are conducted in small groups of up to 4 participants, ensuring personalised attention and supervision. Each client’s program is developed during one-on-one sessions with our Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists, and then implemented in the small group setting, maintaining a high level of individualisation and support.

We focus on proper technique and form to ensure safety and effectiveness. Whether you’re new to exercise or looking to take your fitness to the next level, our program can be tailored to meet your needs, providing a supportive and encouraging environment.
